I have to make a confession here.  I very rarely wear jeans and I haven’t bought any for about five years.  I have a pair for gardening/dog-walking, some skinnies for under a tunic/dress and that's it.  I do realise I am in the minority and that for many of you they are your “go-to” every day, comfortable garment.  What prompted me to feature jeans this time was a post from my favourite local boutique, Sheen Uncovered, which specialises in jeans (in addition to bra fitting and swimwear) and I thought you might find what Jackie, the owner, has to say useful.  Read about the various types of jeans available here:

And now for some tips for choosing jeans to suit you and your body shape:
  1. If you want to minimize your bum, choose jeans without back pockets
  2. Also for bum minimizing, the looser boyfriend or straight legs will be more flattering than skinny.
  3. If you have a curvy body, you might even go for bootleg – the flare at the bottom will balance the curves in your body.
  4. Most mature ladies look better in high rise or at least medium rise.
  5. Unless you are skinny, and light in overall colour, a dark indigo denim will flatter more than a light blue.
  6. Rolling up the hems like the lady in the photo, can look sassy but it will "shorten" your legs.  To give the impression of longer legs, wear hems as long as possible and choose shoes the same colour as the jeans or tuck into knee-high boots.
  7. For a classy look, try a long cardigan or coatigan with your jeans like this one from Next  (£35) - featured in the image.
